This Buescher Aristocrat trumpet is considered a professional- line instrument since it was produced prior to the Selmer Co. It is a brass body horn with nickel plate accents.I have been an amateur player for over 25 years(playing in church and small groups) I have test played this instrument and am very well pleased with the results. Buffed the raw brass to a mirror shine, lacquer was previously removed before I got it) and inspected felts to ensure proper valve port alignment. More need much work to get it in tip top shape.It will require periodic polishing. It will require some maintenance to keep it looking as good as it does in the photos. There is a fairly detailed record of these instruments recorded in a log book in the Selmer archives in Paris up to 1936 through serial number 1364.The serial number is Selmer doesn't list this serial number, but Buescher does, which would. There a few really tiny scratches and a few really really tiny blemishes(can't even see in the photos) but it pretty much looks like a new horn because it has been beautifully re-lacquered. The build quality on this trumpet is top notch and Buescher has been a well respected horn builder for most of last century. All slides move freely and have just been lubricated. Valve casing design has that cool art deco look. This trumpet has slick smooth quick valves and the pistons are in excellent shape. Serial number is 461XXX indicating it was built in approx. Horn plays bright and freely and is excellent in the upper range, open and dark at the bottom end. Louis Armstrong to Chet Baker played and recorded using Buescher trumpets. Buescher trumpets have been the favorites of big band orchestras since the 1920s and 1930s. The case is also vintage, structurally sound, the latches and hinges work okay, but it is cosmetically challenged and not the original case for this horn. This is one of the most under-appreciated vintage trumpets on the market today. Original gold lacquer has darkened with age but is largely intact. This horn looks very elegant with its artistic engraving on the bell, and sleek with its“reverse wrap” tuning slid connection to the 3 rd valve chamber. There were many variants of the“Aristocrat” during the period from 19, but the best one is the model 205. This particular“Aristocrat” model was developed in the 1930s and became very popular with players who could afford to own one. Please keep this in mind when bidding. The custom work done to this horn appears to be a home hobbyist job so it is not perfect. I purchased it from another eBayer exactly the way you see it. That's about all I know about this weird horn. Receiver(sleeved) brushed finish, capped(removed) spit valves for less turbulence, agate buttons, heavy bottom caps, bell bow sheet-metal brace, teutonic tone. The trumpet has some shallow dents/ dings, finish flaws, various minor quirks throughout. More the original Buescher trumpet body was built in the late 1960's. Serial# is 485XXX indicating. Bidding starts at a low $1 so bid to own. I don't sell very many customized/ project/ frankenhorn trumpets so this one is being sold as is with no returns. I took a photo of that card so you can read it. Yes, the colorful psychedelic valve guard is included, which I am told is worth big bucks at a hippie fleamarket. She's just a little too chunky for me. It actually plays very nicely and the valves are slick and smooth. Again this is a home project horn(I have no clue who did the custom work) but it is a neat horn and is very playable. ![]()
